Brooke Walker-Knoblich is a contemporary female artist and figurative painter. As a Pacific Northwest artist, she creates dozens of paintings per year for students, galleries, and collectors nationwide. Brooke is inspired by classical realism and alla prima forms of expression. She combines techniques from multiple periods of art history to infuse her paintings with luminous color and brushwork.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
In 2003, Brooke Walker-Knoblich studied abroad in Paris, France. From a small studio in the 12th arrondisment, she learned to grind and mull her own paints, cure linseed oil, and make gesso from a 15th Century recipe. She learned about the glazing techniques of the Renaissance painters and then created a copy of her own in the Louvre Museum. Years later, Brooke would return to Europe for a workshop at the Florence Academy of Art to paint a live model under the tutelage of Stephen Bauman.
In 2001, Brooke Walker-Knoblich received a scholarship to attend Revelle, the liberal arts college at UC San Diego. After earning a BA in 2005, Brooke developed her first serious body of work and began exhibiting paintings in juried shows across the USA. Her 30x24" painting "Self Portrait by Candlelight" (left) represents the height of Brooke's early, photorealistic painting style.
In 2008, Brooke moved to Sacramento, CA and created several bodies of work inspired by the region. Her Responding to Rivers, Streets of Midtown, and Musicians of Midtown series all received critical acclaim in the local news.
